20 Year Time-Lapse - Rebuilding the World Trade Center6:20
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLqFZNfTmU4
Sep 8, 202122/09/119/11World Trade CenterThis unique film documents two decades of the rescue, recovery and rebuilding at the World Trade Center site in New York City. It is the longest running time-lapse project in the company’s history, including never-before-seen EarthCam footage spanning 20 years. EarthCam has been on site since 2001 when EarthCam CEO & Founder, Brian Cury, installed a webcam just days after the attacks to webcast the rescue mission to the families of the missing. As rescue became recovery and eventually rebuilding, EarthCam set to work to develop new robotic DSLR camera technology necessary to document this revered 16 acre site in the highest resolution possible. Every few minutes for 20 years, panoramic images captured the transformation of downtown Manhattan from over 100 viewing angles, totaling 13.3 million individual photos. “We appreciate EarthCam’s unprecedented contribution of 20 years of historic images, which have meticulously recorded the rebuilding that transformed this sacred space,” said 9/11 Memorial President and CEO Alice M. Greenwald, “This creative time-lapse both honors the legacy of those who were killed and embodies hope for the future, as we see these remarkable new structures that surround the Memorial as evidence of lower Manhattan’s resilience and renewal.” All two decades of content, in addition to the original EarthCam camera have been donated to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum. “This is an emotional milestone for EarthCam, as the history of the company has been so intertwined with this site.” said Brian Cury, CEO and Founder of EarthCam, “We’re grateful to so many partners, friends, and to the extraordinary dedicated team at EarthCam whose innovation drove this process for 20 years to deliver this historic record for the world.” Produced & Directed by Brian Cury Archival Producers: Lana Moskalyova & Juan Navas Webcam Technology: Bill Sharp, Colin Sheehan, Dylan Stark, Michael Winfield EarthCamhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ankf9w6t6qM&list=PLzJ9J9NGDeU0zXWJH9y_e4RYVIYhKiYIO

Oct 18, 201923/05/05AbolitionismSuffrageIsabella Baumfree was born into slavery in the late 18th century. Despite this, she’d go on to prove that enslavement was only a state of mind. She escaped slavery and landed in New York, where she changed her name to Sojourner Truth. With such a poignant name, she was committed to A name ever so poignant, Truth committed to eradicating racial and gender injustice. Although she never learned how to read nor write, she leaned on her own insight and intellect to draw crowds near and far. She became known as an equal rights activist, publishing her own book and hosting events, where her speeches — such as “Ain’t I A Woman?” — would go down as literary masterpieces. Her commitment to ending slavery and ensuring women had equal rights is why she is a feminist icon, and today we celebrate her in this episode of Black History in Two Minutes or So. Hosted by Henry Louis Gates Jr. — with additional commentary from Farah Griffin and Brittney Cooper — we rejoice in the legacy of Sojourner Truth, a freedom fighter, truth teller, and a woman who fought for equality for all.

Frederick Douglass | The Most Photographed American of the 19th Century
2:42
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqkSEjiBU-s
Apr 3, 202023/05/05African AmericansAbolitionismBorn into slavery as Frederick Douglass in 1818, this renowned lecturer and author would become one of the greatest public speakers of his time. After escaping slavery in 1838, Douglass joined the abolitionist movement. As a paid traveling lecturer, people everywhere laid their eyes on a freed, well-spoken black man. Douglass was a visionary well before his time. Ensuring his photo was taken everywhere he went, he hoped to utilize his imagery to humanize black people — enslaved and free — at home and abroad. He is now known as the most-photographed person of the 19th Century. Hosted by Henry Louis Gates Jr. — with additional commentary from Deborah Willis of the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University, John Stauffer Harvard University, Rhae Lynn Barnes of Princeton University, and David Blight of Yale University — we celebrate the legacy of Frederick Douglass who advocated for freedom and equality until his passing in 1895.

The Black Church3:07
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwWqkk4Ha70
Apr 24, 202023/05/04African AmericansCivil Rights MovementReligion as we know it infiltrated the black community during slavery. While the objective leaned on pacifying slaves, black people rose against the negative narrative and invested in a community that would be known as the black church. Records indicate that as early as 1794, Richard Allen, a formerly enslaved black man, founded his own denomination and church. Reverend Allen, a man who purchased his own freedom, sought to abolish slavery and help other people escape, as well. As the nation continued to work through the Civil War, Jim Crow, racism, and economic disparity, the black church and its leaders mobilized its followers to speak out and stand up for injustices. In this series of Black History in Two Minutes or So hosted by Henry Louis Gates Jr., with additional commentary from Brittney Cooper of Rutgers University and Peniel Joseph of the University of Texas, we look at a fundamentally important piece of American history that has been a haven for blacks who have often times been isolated by the nation and the rules of the land.

Booker T. Washington3:02
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Qcw3xU0D6s
Nov 15, 201923/05/05African AmericansReconstructionIn 1872, Booker T. Washington traveled 500 miles on foot to the Hampton Institute in Virginia. That journey, in turn, laid the foundation — not only for his own education — but his life’s mission to empower and compel black people to invest in industrial education. Washington’s bright mind and forward thinking led him to become the principal and leader at the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama in 1881. He would go on to gain national notoriety as a lecturer and influencer. While the content of his speeches promoted black growth at its heart, it would be a speech in 1895, the “Atlanta Compromise,” that rattled many black followers. In this episode of Black History in Two Minutes or So hosted by Henry Louis Gates Jr. — with additional commentary from Farah Griffin of Columbia University, Shawn Alexander from the University of Kansas, Chad Williams of Brandeis University, Kimberlé Crenshaw of UCLA and Columbia law schools, and Hasan Jeffries of Ohio State University — we honor the legacy of Washington. The celebrated orator and author’s contributions are still felt in society today, and he’s a visionary who recognized that investing in ourselves would lead to successes unseen.

How Bison Are Saving America's Lost Prairie8:28
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuYGSrGLeZE&t
Jan 14, 202121/06/08AgricultureUS HistoryAmerican prairies were once home to as many as 60 million bison. But when ranching and agriculture displaced elk and bison from the prairies, America’s grasslands all but disappeared. Now, the Nature Conservancy manages the largest remaining protected tract of tallgrass prairie in the entire world, the Joseph H. Williams Tallgrass Prairie Preserve in northeastern Oklahoma. This 40,000-acre expanse is much more than grass. It is a biologically rich habitat that harbors a diverse collection of plant and animal species—more than 750 species of flora and 80 different mammals. This prairie is also a vital component in nature’s fight against climate change. The key to keeping the prairie healthy? Bison. The Nature Conservancy reintroduced 300 bison to this prairie in 1993, and the herd has grown to more than 2,000 animals today. They graze on the majority of the preserve, playing an important part in enhancing the prairies. Combined with a method of land management known as patch burning—preserve managers torch about a third of the acreage every spring, summer, and fall, mimicking ancient seasons of fire—the tallgrass prairie is thriving.PBS Terrahttps://www.youtube.com/c/pbsterra/videos

What Do You Eat in Antarctica? | Antarctic Extremes12:50
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pzlA9HDNwBs
Apr 22, 202021/06/07AntarticaAchievementsIf you’re a penguin or other seabird in Antarctica, there’s plenty of fish (and some seal placenta) to go around. But what do the people eat? Generally, an adult human consumes around 1,600 to 3,000 calories daily. But in colder climates, people need to eat more: Keeping our warm-blooded bodies warm requires a lot of energy. It’s so cold in Antarctica that the average person needs to consume 3,200 to 5,000 calories a day (watch out, Michael Phelps). And because the continent is frozen, no food grows there naturally. So how do the hundreds of scientists and support personnel who visit Antarctica’s McMurdo Station each year stay fed? Throughout their one-month stay in Antarctica, hosts Caitlin Saks and Arlo Pérez discover the secret sauce of Antarctic cooking from experts at McMurdo’s galley (Hint: Need to reconstitute a meal? Just add cheese! Need to keep that cheese beyond its expiration date? That’s what freezers are for) and scientists at remote research sites. They glimpse the early days of Antarctic food storage at a long-preserved hut from theTerra Nova Expedition that began in 1910. Along the way, Caitlin and Arlo discover the glory of 24/7 pizza and “freshies,” the cardboard-like texture of a protein bar several years past its expiration date, and the true meaning of “eat your vegetables.” Stream ‘Polar Extremes’ online time learn more: https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/video/polar-extremesPBS Terrahttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BA3YdJHv5AE&list=PLnNZYWyBGJ1H2IlDRx1v_CvpVJabDlGUG

Apr 24, 201823/03/07Articles of ConfederationConstitutionSo Why the Constitution? ● How did the new Constitution “change” the American idea of government? ○ Unifies states, no longer a “Virginian” now an “American.” Changing hearts and minds of Americans. ○ Confederated republic v Constitutional republic ■ Proprietary vs religious liberty. ○ Loose but perpetual union of different States v tight knit union of states. ● Federalism vs Confederation ○ One Chief executive v 13-50 chief execs ○ Larger 3 part federal entity v smaller 2 part entity ■ *3 (federal) - Legislative, executive, judicial ■ 2 (state) - Legislature, executive ○ Did you notice the absence of the federal courts? ■ All people equal under the law. ■ Court uniformity - all courts held to the same standard. ● “Big” government vs “more perfect” union ○ Now that we have this constitution, what’s the balance? ■ Powers of state vs federal ● No more redundancies with state vs. federal govt’s. ● Set up as exactly what we need, nothing more. ○ Taxes, printing money, interstate commerce, etc. ○ Stopped trade. Don’t take away ambition and opportunity. ○ Still an ongoing question today. ○ What’s working for the problems we face today?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SkrtZ8sFkU
May 5, 201521/10/12Bill of RightsAmendmentsThis video introduces a mobile app about how James Madison and First Congress and created the Bill of Rights. The app is available for iPad and as a PDF from the Center for Legislative Archives at the National Archives.Within the half-billion pages of records in the care of the Center for Legislative Archives, there are some special treasures from the First Congress that show how the ratification of the Constitution necessitated the creation of the Bill of Rights, and how the creation of the Bill of Rights, in turn, completed the Constitution. The remarkable story of the relationship between two of our Charters of Freedom is told in Congress Creates the Bill of Rights. It consists of three elements: an eBook, a mobile app for tablets, and online resources for teachers and students. Each provides a distinct way of exploring how the First Congress proposed amendments to the Constitution in 1789. https://www.archives.gov/legislative/resources/bill-of-rights

These passages are cited so often that it's hard to imagine the document without them. Eminent Domain - Full Video16:18
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG61nflAI7E
Aug 20, 201523/05/03Bill of RightsEminent DomainIn 2005, the US Supreme Court took on the most important property rights case in the history of our country. The Kelo case pitted homeowners in New London, CT against city officials who wanted to use the power of eminent domain to redevelop the area in the hope of creating jobs and increasing tax revenues. The homeowners resisted, arguing that eminent domain power should only be used for public projects like roads and schools. Ultimately, however, the Court upheld the city's right to turn over the homeowners' property to private land developers. Since that ruling, the use of eminent domain to transfer property from one private owner to another private owner has increased dramatically. The controversial Kelo v. New London decision sparked a nation-wide debate about the importance of property rights that continues today. Eminent Domain tells the real-life stories of three Americans fighting to prevent their property from being taken in the name of redevelopment. Eminent Domain covers numerous educational standards across several subject areas including Language Arts, Media/Technology, and Social Studies for Grades 4-12. Dec 14, 202123/05/19Bill of RightsFederalist PapersWhen the Constitutional Convention met in the summer of 1787, the primary goal of the delegates was to fix the weaknesses in the Articles of Confederation. Most of the discussion focused on how our new government would operate, not on the individual rights of the people. George Mason of Virginia introduced a motion to adopt a Bill of Rights, but the suggestion was quickly dismissed. Tom Hand, creator and publisher of Americana Corner, discusses the origins of this incredible document, and why it still matters today.

Freedom of Religion - First Amendment Course1:50
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGwoTlkcvnM
Jun 29, 202023/03/16Bill of RightsFirst AmendmentReligious persecution and wars fought in the name of religion were the norm, not the exception, in the centuries prior to the founding of the United States. The idea of religious freedom was a new one...Following the Revolutionary War, questions arose about the Anglican Church, given that the King of England (now deposed from the colonies) was the head of it. Anglicans couldn't very well continue to call their church the Church of England now that they lived in a new nation. A variety of churches grew out of the Anglican traditions, including the Protestant Episcopal Church, the Methodist Episcopal Church, and the Presbyterians. Since there was no longer state-provided funding (that is, tax money) to support the churches, they had to "compete" for followers and support themselves. Even so, churches grew rapidly. We've already covered the fact that the Constitution originally did not include a bill of rights, setting off division and controversy among the Framers, and leading some states to hesitate to sign it. https://izzitorg.teachable.com/courses/1035803/lectures/21743513izzitEDUhttps://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLp79CNianrN7i3ugN7QFabmNdpbuHvpK1

Jan 5, 202223/05/19Bill of RightsFirst AmendmentWhen creating the Bill of Rights, the Founders believed meetings to discuss vital issues of the day were essential to a republican form of government. The right to peaceably assemble allowed people to gather, discuss ideas, and formulate their requests, and the right to petition allows these requests to be taken directly to elected officials. Tom Hand, creator and publisher of Americana Corner, discusses how the First Amendment allow the voices of everyday Americans to be heard, and why that still matters today.
